This work is as much about the destruction as the saving of old materials and turning them into something new. When I began this project I was initially inspired by the construction cranes I saw springing up around the city. As I went about photographing these towers I noticed I was spending more time in the poorer parts of DC, many of which are on new-build gentrification tracks. My interest with the cranes left and I was filled with a new wonder of what happened to the people who use to live in these neighborhoods. Just as those people were tossed aside for new residents so were the steel I-Beams and concrete ruble in my work. Re-purposed as shrines to those who where pushed out of their homes as if they didn't matter.
